Government Corruption In Latin America

Government corruption can be defined as political power used by government leaders for private gain and to maintain their power as a government official. Most of the times these corrupt politicians say they’re doing their best in order to catch criminals but in reality they commit just as many crimes. They are able to maintain their power because most people do not vote because they think they will not make a difference and the politicians have under the table deals so people vote for them. In order to stop this corruption voters must know that they can make a difference and stopping private deals. Democracy started in Latin America in 1959. Starting in Venezuela and eventually making its way across the rest of Latin countries. Prior to democracy the main form of government was totalitarianism where all of the political power lies on the head of the country. The word of the one in charge of the country was law and could not be gone against or there would be horrible consequences. Although it is a democracy now and the government says the power lies with the people, however corrupt politician actually hold the power mainly through the use of bribery. This however is not entirely the fault of the corrupt politician trying to stay in power. It is also to blame on those persons who accepts the bribe. By accepting the bribe they are creating a market for bribery that the leaders are taking advantage of. The reason the politicians resort to bribery is because it not only ensures they stay in power but it can also bring in a fountain of wealth that they keep in secrecy (Vogl, 2015). In order to prevent bribery it is best to stop it at its roots. For starters raise awareness about bribery.
