Government Corruption: Democracy In The United States

Government corruption can be defined as political power used by government leaders for private gain and to maintain their power as a government official. Most of the times these corrupt politicians say they are doing their best in order to catch criminals when, in reality, they commit just as many crimes. They are able to maintain their power because most people do not vote because they think they will not make a difference and the politicians have under the table deals so people vote for them. In order to stop this corruption voters must know that they can make a difference by participating in their democracy and not making private deals with corrupt officials. Democracy started in Latin America in 1959. Starting in Venezuela and eventually making its way across the rest of Latin countries. Prior to democracy the main form of government was totalitarianism where all of the political power lies on the head of the country. Before the country became a democracy, the word of the one in charge of the country was law and could not be gone against or there would have been horrible consequences. This can be remedied by having some kind of food stamps systems so that they do not have to take the bribe and do not have to worry about whether or not they have enough to eat. An issue with compulsory voting is that sometimes there are people out of the country for any reason on voting day. However, just by demonstrating, at a voting office, proof of being out of country such as a flight ticket can exempt them from having to pay the fine. Having to vote for a president more often can be a slight inconvenience but overall it will help with cycling ideas and personnel in
