As we sink in deeper in this economic downturn, it’s important for us to pay attention to the provincial government budget cuts and negative impacts they could impose, especially on education and healthcare.
Education and healthcare are two important components in shaping our society. They both provide countless economic economic benefits. These economic benefits as this report will show, outweigh the costs that governments may incur now. Therefore, I believe that in order for us to enjoy their economical benefits, we should ensure that they are completely funded.

This is after the Progressive Conservative government proposed similar cuts which was followed by the people of Alberta protesting which lead the premier, Jim Prentice, to announce a call for an early election. According to an article written by Olave Rokne on Alberta Federation of Labours, “Premier Prentice wants to leave the impression that we have no choice but to cut spending, even on core services like health care and education…” (Rokne, 2015). one of the cuts proposed by the PC according to Deloitte 2015-2016 budget highlights, a new healthcare levy collected from taxpayers depending on their taxable income in addition to a $160 million decrease to health budget, and a 2.7% cuts on non-teaching costs (Robertson, 2015).
