Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis and tend to develop in people with high levels of uric acid in their blood. The arthritis affects more than 8 million Americans and is more likely in men than women due to hormones women have in their bodies (Diagnosis Gout). Uric acid is formed when the human body breaks down cells and food that is ingested, it builds up in the joints causing crystals (Diagnosis Gout). The crystals are needle like and cause sudden pain to the body, the infected are becomes tender, warm, red, and swells (arthritis foundation). The first-place gout attacks are the normally the big toe then the knees or ankles (Diagnosis Gout). Doctors measure the severity of gout by four terms: asymptomatic hyperuricemia, acute gout, interval gout, and chronic gout. …show more content…
Over the course of time they gathered data and compared how much weight was lost or gained and how many gout attacks the person had over the same course of time. They put the data into a chart and compared it to the syptoms that occurred within that person and everyone else in the experiment.
