Thesis: Mysteries teleport individuals to the world of magic and superstition.
Jonathan Gottschall’s The Storytelling Animal provided the topic of creativity for the research project. In chapter 3 “Hell Is Story-Friendly” Gottschall claims that people are attracted to fiction, to violent stories with mysteries, and without these elements in them, society will not be as interested in stories (Gottschall, 47-49).
Mysteries and conspiracies would not exist without storytelling. A person might go to a psychic reader and share the experience …show more content…
The most famous technique is telepathy where a magician reads one’s mind. However, it is not completely a true magic, it is a fraud that street magicians utilize - just the right way of receiving and observing the information from a sender. This is also the case for Clever Hans, a well-known horse of 19th century that was known for being telepathic. Unfortunately, the discovery that Heinzen, Lilienfeld, and Nolan concluded in "Clever Hans” is the following: none of this mysteries is magic. As Shermer talks in this article “Psychic for a Day: Or how I Learned Tarot Cards, Palm Reading, Astrology, and Mediumship in 24 Hours", he once learned the most common forms of psychic reading in less than 24 hours. The point of his article is to educate the readers – stories they hear from tarot readers, and astrologists does not imply supernatural – everyone can do this. Thus, Hyman identified it as idemotor movement, and discussed the truth behind magical rituals. The final part of the research is astrology, the universal tool society uses to forecast future. Moreover, besides being a fascinating topic, it is extremely important to know the real truth in physics reading and other magical approaches so that people are not fooled.
Primary research was conducted on one famous TV Show “Physics Battle” which is in high demand and has many watchers. Just by googling “psychic”, google generates more than 58 million results where some of them are addresses of close by mediums. Also, family and friends were used for the primary research: just recalling conversations about their visits to astrologists draws similar conclusions: people love mysteries with precognitive nature. Working thesis provided more information for additional research and brought the following questions: when did the interest for conspiracy and supernatural originate, or what were mysterious stories a few centuries ago? These questions led to the following topic: development of witchcraft legends and the conspiracy of demons. Meanwhile, books brought the idea for the Clever Hans mystery research. The hardest part of the research was that some topics did not have plausible research, or sources were not
