Gothic Stereotypes

Improved Essays
Open on an average fall day late evening with the last light of the day quickly fading away. There’s a granite mausoleum lined with roman columns containing a myriad of gothic gargoyles. It stands underneath the nearby tree with the first wave of colored leaves starting to gather around its base and surrounding area. Behind the mausoleum is a hill containing rows of tombstones that rises out of frame. One of the doors to the mausoleum is ajar revealing the warm light of fire inside and the presence of people or movement because of shadows on the door. A white ethereal form is seen gliding from behind the tree and disappears behind the mausoleum. The instant the figure is out of view the flame inside the mausoleum goes dark.

A still-standing ancient arch of the old cemetery chapel reminds me of being in an archeological site. The chapel’s adobe walls are crumbling and supported with wood timbers. The chapel was built in the 17th century, but its foundation dates to the early 1500’s. What remains is a shell, open to the sky, while within the walls are several centuries old gravesites.…

She walked down the cold, dark corridor as she felt the soft and quiet wind run her by causing her to experience an ice-cold chill that ran up her spine. It was merely past six in the afternoon, yet the eerie atmosphere made it appear as if she were standing in the middle of a cemetery at the darkest hour of the night. The hot, moisty air made her clothes and hair cling to her skin. Her hands began to shake and sweat trickled down her palms. She swore she heard someone’s voice whisper her name, but perhaps it was simply the wind.…
