Get to know a Goth The Goth culture is one that finds beauty in things that others consider to dark and depressing to even think about. The goth group is known for mostly wearing dark clothing and being calm and nonviolent people. However, goths are commonly perceived from society as people who worship the devil, cut themselves, are evil, and only wear black. Goths have also been seen as people that are always depressed and only like to listen to goth genres such as rock and heavy metal. Due to their unusual appearance of black clothes and makeup goths are constantly being depicted as satanist. The fact that both satanist and goths wear a great amount of black clothes makes people think that both of these groups are the same

In the online article, The World According To Goth, Marcia Montenegro states that, “The word Goth, historically, is linked to the barbaric tribes that invaded the Roman Empire from the north, initiating the so-called Dark Ages; thus, goth became associated with something dark and outside civilization.” Because the goth subculture was formed during a dark era most people believe that goths are evil and doing wicked things. Although some goth fashion is influenced in this era goths that dress that way aren’t scary and evil people. A common misconception is that goths hate everyone and like hurting others.
