.An example of this is on September 30th, In Ms. Bowens third period class,Ms. Bowen was becoming irritated with her students for they were playing with the rulers and ignoring her directions. The kids acted as if they had never seen rulers before and left this world for a time. Ms. Bowen an 8th grade science teacher at CMS, however, was not amused saying, “You're not in kindergarten!” The kids continue to ignore Ms. Bowen directions which could come to harm them later when they were doing a lab. This story leads us to look at the focus of teenagers and how the lack of focus harms them. Bowen’s second period class. Camila, an 8th grader at CMS was frustrated with a group mate,Vatsal, who kept messing up.Vatsal, an 8th grader, had been messing up for a long time even before the reporters had been interviewing him. He was not focused mixing a chemical solution and had splashed contents of the beaker onto the table several times. Vatsal was not focused on his work but was focused on the reporters. He was irritated and messed up more so than before saying “Don't actually write that” to a reporter named Zach. In a recent poll 98% of students said they aren't 100% focused in class. In another poll, 84% of students said that they get off task while doing work. During an interview with an 8th grade of CMS student by the name of Rithvik Kalluri, he was asked if he paid attention in class he said he was maybe focused “80% of the time” . Rithvik also commented that he asked a lot of questions that had previously been answered in class.
This lack of focus the our youth may point towards the reason that the United States is the 28th smartest country in the world. Our northern neighbors, Canada, comes in at ten beating us by 18. Singapore, which is smaller than New York City, tops this list. The lack of focus in our youth has put kids in harm's way, not only physically but academically.
