Jesus was explaining that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and rise again. However, then Jesus rebuked Peters and said “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” I believe Jesus does not want Christians to rebuke him and Jesus made it clear that He does not by telling Satan to go away. I believe another idea that present day Christians should not respond to is when Jesus asked the disciple, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered Jesus and said, “You are the Christ.” However, then Jesus told the disciples to tell no one about him. For example, the Bible states in Mark 8:34, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me”. The important principle of life that Jesus is teaching is about the meaning of life, purpose of life, and how to live life the way that it was meant to be lived. Jesus is providing us the free opportunity to make the decision to seek Him, to pursue Him, and to follow Him no matter where you go or what are your circumstances in life. Jesus wants everyone to make the decision and He is providing everyone the invite to make that decision. It is indicated in scripture, that once you made the decision to live for Jesus, there are some important principles that you must always remember if you are going to live your life.
