Gospel Of Luke's Gospel Essay

The gospel of Luke is unique from the other synoptic gospels because not only was he Greek, he converted to Christianity and portrayed Jesus as a man filled with spirit; a man of prayer and compassion, especially for the oppressed and for people living on the fringes of society. Luke presented Jesus in such way that he can be seen as a verifiable historical figure, as a teacher and an important prophet in the bible. He also recognises the women in Jesus life, and includes parables about then and gives the recognition, unlike other gospels.

The Gospel of Luke was written around the same time as that of Matthew, around the mid-80s of the first century CE and was written in the most refined Greek of any gospels in the New Testament. Like Matthew,

Luke writes about Jesus’s love for those living on the fringes of society, to the oppressed, the sick, the excluded and disadvantaged. In Luke's gospel, he is the only gospel writer to include the parable of the Good Samaritan, (10:25-37) the Lost Sheep (15:4-7), the Prodigal Son ,( 15:11-32) The story of ten lepers being cured and cleansed (17:11-19) and 18 other unique stories only found in Luke that talk about Jesus love and compassion for the marginalised and outcasts. In Luke's gospel, he focuses more on Jesus’s compassion and the special interest he has for the poor and the downtrodden; and the need for social justice. The gospel of Luke depicts Jesus as a man with a heart of gold and focuses more on the compassion, healing and sacrifice Jesus had for those around him more than the other evangelists. Jesus was always reaching out to those at the bottom of the social ladder; the poor and gentiles (2:32; 3:23–38; 4:24–27; 7:1–10; 24:47), women, children and prostitutes (1:26–56; 2:36–38; 7:11–17, 36–50; 8:2, 42–48; 10:38–42; 21:1–4; 23:27–31; 23:55–24:11) Samaritans (9:51–56; 10:29–37; 17:11–19) and tax collectors (5:27–32; 7:34; 15:1–2; 18:9–14; 19:1–10). Jesus also preached to others to accept people for not their social status, but their being and preached that if they believe in the Lord, that the Lord will believe …show more content…
Jesus in particular confronted gender norms, racism and sexism. In Luke 10:38-42, At the Home of Martha and Mary, Luke is the only evangelist to write about the importance of women. Luke wrote about how Jesus helped Martha; Martha was preparing food to serve a large number of people and Jesus said that she needs to stop, telling her to put her spiritual responsibilities ahead of their physical ones. This is surprising as those times, a women's main task was to take care of domestic concerns and to be told to stop and puts your worries in that hands of God, was considered rare. It was also written that Mary was sitting at the feet of a disciple with Jesus, not a common practice during those times, especially for a woman to be sitting at a disciple's feet. Jesus, unlike most people of his generation, treated women as equal, something beyond expectation at the time. Women are mentioned more than the other gospels and importantly, play more prominent roles in Luke's gospel compared to the others. Another example similar to this is In Luke 7:36-50; Jesus stood up for a prostitute at a Pharisee’s house, the woman was surprised that Jesus stood up for her, because she was but a servant, she was surprised that Jesus would talk to her as in those time those in power or higher up on the social ladder would not talk to a servant, yet alone a prostitute. It was also in

The stories of Jesus are represented through the four New Testament Gospels: Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John. Each Gospel emphasizes on particular principles that represent Jesus differently. Jesus is seen as the suffering Messiah in all four Gospels, but each Evangelist puts in his own intake, hence expanding on the original Markan portrait of Jesus. The writers of the Gospels give their own theological assertions, and understandings, which in effect creates a new portrait of Jesus for each Gospel. The Gospel portraits vary and represent a different and evolving view of Jesus’, stories, and traditions over time.…

There are no Bbible verses that directly discuss a woman’s capability of having similar duties to a man’s. However, there are multiple bible verses that discuss women’s equality to men. For example, Deuteronomy 10:17 says, “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.” Although there are differences in the the role of men and women, particularly in the home, God loves neither more than the other.…

With four gospels in the New Testament, there are many different ways Jesus could be represented. Each one paints a different portrait, some more similar than others due to a common source. In the Gospel of Matthew, the author chooses to focus on the teaching and prophecy fulfilling aspects of Jesus over the other possible views. The stories and references were carefully chosen to be suit the intended audience of the author, showing the savior who they needed the most. The gospel of Matthew was written anonymously around 80-90 AD and its genre closely resembles an ancient biography.…

These two works were authored by Luke, a Gentile believer (Colossians 4:10-14). Seeing that he just authored these two books, which his writings constitute over one fourth of the New Testament writings (making Luke the greatest possible author), the study of the content and message is quite important to us. (Dulle, n.d.) Acts and that Luke are companion books might be seen in many ways.…
