In the Bible, there are many passages from the Gospel where Christians learn about prayer from Jesus. Prayer as many Christians already know is the communication between us and God. Jesus learned how to pray from his beloved mother Mary, the Jewish tradition and even on his own. During Jesus’ ministry, Jesus taught us how to pray by giving us instructions on how to pray and using parables in order to teach us about a message or prayer in the Gospel. In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John they are five specific passages that help us learn about prayer from Jesus. In the Gospel of Matthew, they are passages that shows us how to pray. “ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” (The Holy Bible, New International …show more content…
He also teaches us that God knows what we need before we ask even ask him. In the Gospel of Mark, they are also passages on how we should pray to God. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive …show more content…
In order for our prayers to be answered by the Triune God we must fully believe in him and when we ask God for forgiveness we have to make sure we forgive those who sinned against us. Another passage where we learn how to pray from the master is from the Gospel of Luke: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (The Holy Bible, New International Version, Luke 18:10-14) in this passage Jesus taught us that those who are humble before God and ask for mercy and forgiveness will be exalted into heaven

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate my understanding of how the Biblical text directly and/or indirectly relates to wealth, poverty, and economic justice. Starting with the second creation story found in the book of Genesis to Martin Luther King, Jr’s last sermon titled, The Drum Major Instinct, this paper will explore how the absence of loving self unselfishly fuels social and economic injustices that have plagued humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve. On January 6, 2018, a friend sent me this quote from an unknown source, “The woman you’re becoming will cost you relationships, spaces, and material things. Choose her over everything.” After reflecting upon the words, I sent her this reply, “Learning to love self in an unselfish way,…

Just as Jesus cautions about doing good works, he also states that when praying they should not pray to draw attention to themselves. He enourages prayer in private so as to concentrate better on communicating with God and praying privately to God. He tells that God will reward you in public. Finally Jesus adds that God knows our needs before we ask for them in prayer. Baptism is not something we offer to God.…

This essay pursues the studies pertaining to the quest for the historical Jesus which has been begun in the Enlightenment era and focuses on the dominant discourse of this quest in the present-day scholarly works as Jesus the Jew. The late-coming acceptance of the Jewishness of Jesus is now a scholarly cliché. In the context of the Gospels, to say “Jesus was a Jew” is not a really shocked or unexpected idea. The problem is about the Jewishness of Jesus why it took too long time until the 1970s. The second problem is how the assertion of the Jewishness of Jesus could develop tremendously in the contemporary academy.…

The first chapter of Transformed into Fire is titled “The Call to Communion”, which seems to be the main focus of this chapter. Hougen (2002) shares a couple of people’s stories through this chapter, each person’s story showed that they wanted to feel God’s love, not just hear/learn about it. She talks about the head and the heart; the head is about performance, and logic, while the heart is about experience, and feeling. She begins to explain the difference between communication, and communion. While communication is headwork, we listen, take orders, and perform, communion is being there, feeling, experience what is going on.…

In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

Luke 11:1-13 demonstrates the disciple’s desire to become more like the one they are following, Jesus, through their prayer life. As his close followers, they have the ability and insight to understand that prayer is the most crucial aspect of Jesus’ rule and reign here on earth, more so than his ability to perform miracles or speak eloquently in parables. The disciples ask for guidance in what they deem the most important feature of life, be it theirs or Jesus’. As Jesus provides them with the guidance they request, he gives them an outline to follow—he is not saying that they must pray for the exact things that he does, but rather, that there is a proper way to address God; it is a way of humbly beseeching God for what they need while still…
