On March 9, 2018, I attended the Redemption Praise and Worship Gospel Concert. This event was located at the Redemption Church in Greenville, SC. This event was approximately 3.5 hours long. During this event the church had several different gospel performers. There was some musical theater performance, gospel rock, gospel rap, a lot of singing and a live band. While the performers were singing, they had 3 different people playing 3 different guitars, 1 person playing the piano, 1 person playing the drums, I notice some harmonicas were played, they even had a few people playing the tambourines on the stage. They had a huge choir and a large dance team. The concert included 3 devotional speakers and a major surprise Minister T.D. Jakes made

Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…

It was finally my time to be in the limelight—my time to share my God-given talents. I came from a shy and insecure mindset, but being chosen for the soloist position in a new style of worship would change everything for me.…

There were a few informational bits during the performance to help the audience understand the performers and their relationship with each other. The singer was actually a Bradley allum and had performed in the Hartmann Theater before. One of the songs was duet called “Hard Hearted Hannah” and the song was sang by Stephanie Aarons and one of the Trombonists. The Trombonist actually knew Aarons personally which gave the song a more intimate feel to it. There was also a guy who was playing the piano and played a song with Aarons.…

What I really enjoyed was the atmosphere. The lights were dimmed so people could feel more comfortable and the music consisted of a good balance of upbeat music, and slow music. Songs were sung and people worshiped for about forty-five minutes. This was a very moving experience. Glancing into the audience, it was evident that everyone was engaged in the worship.…

Last Sunday, I attend my friend’s Francine church service generally speaking going to church is something that has been installed in me, throughout my upbringing being that, I am a Baptist Christian, but I decided to take a cultural plunge and experience another domination of Christianity. Francine’s Church is called The Evening of the Light and is considered a Protestant church. Prior to attending the service, I was shocked when Francine instructed me to wear a long skirt or dress that went pass my knees and not to wear any make- up. This was so odd to me because at my church there were no dress codes and the members typically wore formal attire on the first Sunday of the month because we took communion and there definitely wasn’t any restriction…

“With great power comes great responsibility” being the oldest of nine I have an abundance of both responsibility and expectations to uphold. One thing that was stressed was the importance of giving back to those that come after me. Over the last three years I have done many things that help those around and in my community. One of the most recent events was during the summer during “Gospel Music Workshop of America”. The next event occurred after that was also in the summer in Brooklyn.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

At the concert, I was a perspective listener. The perspective listener is a combination of all of the listener types. A perspective listener enjoys the sound of the music but is also critically aware of how it makes them feel and why and it also makes associations with the music whether it being from a feeling or a memory. Going to the concert I was listening with great concentration, trying to hear every aspect of the piece.…

All of the individuals that were performing were teachers in at this campus. I was very surprised that we have this much talent at our music department from the teachers. With the first act they performed songs called Mercy, Stones, Shelter, and The Lacemaker.…
