1.Gorilla, My Love: Do you find the children's reaction to the religious movie somehow irreligious or even blasphemous? How is the fact that the narrator and her companions are children relevant to this question? Can we discern anything about the narrator's religious convictions from this story?

I do not think that the children's reaction to the religious movie was blasphemous at all. She even mentions in the story that she doesn't have anything against Jesus.I think the reason why the fact that they are children is relevant because it explains why they got so upset. Most children are going to overreact to problems that they face. That's just what kids do and I would know because I have two of my own. They were expecting a completely

I was confused by this story until I remembered that it was Edgar Allan Poe that wrote it. He has such a unique and disturbing way of telling each story. I believe that the narrator wanted revenge against his friend. Fortunato's cough was mentioned several times in this story and it made me wonder why. I think the narrator was concerned that this cough was going to kill Fortunato. I think the narrator thought the cough was more serious than Fortunato did and I think it had something to do with why he called out Fortunato's name at the wall. The narrator was looking for a response because he wanted to make sure that Fortunato was still alive. The narrator wanted to be the reason why Fortunato died and maybe he thought that the cough was what killed him in the end. He could have also called out his name because he felt guilty about it; however, the cough that kept getting mentioned really stuck in my head. I think he called out Fortunato's name because he wanted the last laugh,he wanted to show Fortunato that he was the better man. There are so many different ways that you could interperate that ending.I think the reason why he says that his heart grew sick was because he was either feeling guilty or because he realized the cough was what killed Fortunato. I think he tried to blame it on the conditions of catacombs, but in the end I think it was because of the

In the essay “What’s Happened to Disney Films?” author John Evans states the concerns of parents with regards to Disney motion pictures and how they are not as child-friendly as they were in the 1960’s compared to the 1990’s. Evans focus on the issues brought about in these films ranging from the use of profanities to violence, which should not be in Disney films. I understand the logic behind the authors position, he believes that the content of Disney films has taken a turn for the worse. Firstly, the author states that Disney has become a conglomerate having many subsidiaries and that it has had troubling effects on what Disney considers child-friendly.…

After he has only one brick left to complete the wall that will seal off Fortunato forever, he says, 'My heart grew sick...' but he immediately blames that twinge of guilt on the dampness of his surroundings" (Lineberger 4). There is no intent of sympathy for Montresor because of Fortunato's wrongdoing of him, but instead to judge him. Montresor's point of view, intensifies the effect of moral shock and horror; delving into the inner workings of a sinister…

The most chilling horror movie of the year isn’t Crimson Peak or Paranormal Activity: it’s Jesus Camp. The terror of watching kids spend every moment of their youth proselytizing, surrendering to prayer, and vying to “reclaim America for Christ,” is far more intense than seeing a girl being terrorized by ghosts. And scarier yet: it’s all completely real. Jesus Camp is not a drama or a comedy. It's a documentary, made by award-winning filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, who follow the experiences of three young children—Levi, Tory, and Rachael—as they attend the "Kids on Fire" summer camp in Devil's Lake, North Dakota.…

Earlier in the story, Fortunato made a toast to the bodies in the cave, but does not know that he is about to be in the catacombs with them as well. This irony is shown many times in the story and because of this it makes the story much more interesting to the readers. Fortunato’s death is predestined many times, but with him being too intoxicated he cannot pay attentions to the…

Lisa Benson is a somewhat well known political cartoonist and radio show host. This cartoon has been posted and reposted across multiple websites and shared numerous times over social media. Like her other cartoons, it has no original source or website that it was posted to. On the surface, there are several babies sitting at the feet of a very disgruntled gorilla. From the imagery it is concluded that it is supposed to be a gorilla enclosure or exhibit.…

Whenever nursery rhymes are a fantasy of a "fake story" or a reality, it has made an impact in children now a days. Some nursery rhymes contain overt hints of cruelty, suggesting that the composers of nursery rhymes weren’t always at pains to protect their young audience from frightening imagery. That’s not all. Research have demonstrated that while certain nursery rhymes are simply nonsense songs or sweet poems, others may derive from political satire, ribald jokes or religious disputes.…

As the two are walking deeper into the catacombs, Fortunato begins to cough, prompting Montresor to tell him “Come, we will go back; your health is precious.” (167) Montresor knows very well that Fortunato will not agree to turn around and goes on to say “You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed. For me it is no matter” (167). Even in death, Edgar Allan Poe couldn’t avoid tragedy. Arthur Hobson Quinn, prominent Poe biographer, once said “The fatality, which always accompanied Edgar Poe’s living actions, followed him after death and the [his] tombstone was broken before it could be erected” (Quinn 643). Poe’s first taste of success came when he won “a short-story contest with his [story] ‘MS Found in a Bottle’” (Introduction II). He would go on to publish hundreds of short stories, poems, book reviews, and thoughtful essays, but he would never, during his lifetime, achieve the level of success his first contest win provided.…

The rhetorical object I plan on analyzing is the film The Lion King, which was released on June 15, 1994. With the film grossing $987.5 million in the box office over its release (without the DVD earnings), The Lion King is currently the third highest grossing animated film in the world. A film that is world renown, by both adults and children, the film is considered a classic film that people from generations have watched. Unlike most Disney films, The Lion King was the first Disney animated film to have its own original story. The story is inspired from parts of the Bible such as the lives of Joseph and Moses.…

This story is all about revenge and how one man feels as if he has been wronged, therefore he takes the punishment of the other into his own hands. Montresor believes that Fortunato has wronged him in some way, although there is not evidence in the story that Fortunato has in fact done anything to Montresor. Montresor decides himself that he is going to to the judge of what has been done and that he’s going to decide the punishment for it. He tricks Fortunato by asking him to go with him into the vaults to taste what he think is Amontillado. Its thereafter that Montresor gets Fortunato into a small crypt and then begins to wall him up.…

In The cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe vengeance is served viciously. Two Friends, Montresor and Fortunato destiny is determined in two ways only, revenge and murder. In the story Poe uses a feeling of betrayal to build a mysterious and seductive character before ascending to his remarkable strategy to a state of suspense. In fact, throughout the story, the reader slowly realizes that Montresor is an unreliable narrator; that whatever insult Montresor believes Fortunato committed is probably imagined or exaggerated. It's certain that Fortunato has no idea of Montresor's anger, and this makes the story even more tragic and frightening.…

Fairy Tales are an important means used to teach life’s basic truths to children. These stories contain deep moral beliefs that sculpt basic understanding of right and wrong for society. Throughout time they have been adapted to a more child friendly form, even so that the film industry now bases child-oriented movies on classic fairy tales. Fairy tales, such as Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”, appeal to a sense of romance, adventure, and the fight between good and evil. Society supports retelling the fairy tales because they support traditional moral values society desires its children to learn.…
