In the beginning of 'the Internship', the two main characters, salesmen, Nick Campbell and Billy McMann meet up with one of their clients, Bob Williams and try to sell him a collection of watches. At this business meeting, much to their surprise, Bobby Williams informs them that the sales company that they work for i.e. Sammy Roscoe Sales, has closed down.
The next day, their employer Sammy informs them that they are ''dinosaurs'' (the Internship: 2013) and that computers can do the work that they do, i.e. sales representatives, at a much cheaper rate. Nick states that ''people want to deal with people not terminators'' (the Internship 2013). Nick and Billy have very few prospects. In the interim, Nick finds work …show more content…
The interns are informed that they need to complete the tasks assigned to them and that they need to win each task. This allows for the team that wins, to receive permanent employment at Google. This incentivises the interns. This style of leadership is based on an employee achieving specific goals and then being rewarded for achieving those goals.
1.2 Theoretical Component of Management and Leadership:
In a global economy that is continuously changing and evolving management must have an ability to grow, change and adapt within their environments i.e. Micro, Macro and Market environments. When problem solving is done in a group, creative thinking can result in creative solutions, as we have seen in 'the Internship'.
Scenario 1:
The teams are recquired to create a new App. Billy and Nick's team try to brainstorm ideas but this does not work or achieve anything. The differences in the team members knowledge, age, and experience makes problem solving very difficult. At the end of the evening, an unexpected and unpredictable problem arises when Lyle tries to drunk text Saffron. The RIMS Strategy is used to solve the problem as all the team members feel more 'equal' by the end of the evening, and creativity can flow. The App that was created would prevent someone from drunk texting by asking you difficult questions beforehand.
Scenario 2:
The teams are challenged to operate the call centre for Google. Google clients phone in to ask for assistance. This innovative service was created by Google to solve problems for its confused customers. Billy asks Lyle for a 'fixed line' that he can use to answer the callers requests. Lyle advises Billy to study the work. Billy mentally weighs his options by using the Pros and Cons technique. Billy eventually decides to
