The courtroom was loud with excited voices of women and men gossiping about the people who were about to go on trial. The whole town had shown up for the trial. They were there to accuse the people they had once called their friends and family. They were afraid of what had happened in town. The town’s people did not want to be accused of being witches themselves. One of the judges looked out into the crowd and yelled for everyone to quiet down. The other judge announced that the trial was beginning. The first person put on trial was Goody Clark. She was a quiet young women who lived next to the grocery store in town. She did not interact with the town’s people very often, which is one of the reasons why so many people were suspicious of her. She stood there silently mouthing something to herself while the judges told the crowd of her crimes and asked for me (an eye witness to her crimes) to come and testify against her. “What kind of animals were these familiars and what evil deeds has she used them for?” asked Judge Engle. “She has a black cat with glowing eyes that sits on her shoulder and a sinister looking dog that glares at you with its single eye.
