Business slowed, then crawled, and eventually died a few weeks later. So, where did that leave us at now? I guess with me being the only one still with a job left. I had officially become the de facto bread-winner for the family. Goodbye Trans AM. The very next day after having found out about my mama possibly being out of a job soon too, I had gone into work where I’d asked my boss, Ray Boone (Who was also the owner of the Boonies pizza and subs.) if he had any extra shifts he could give me. He had listened to me as I explained to him how my step daddy had just lost his job due to the mess in the Gulf, and how the relief money supposedly coming from BP to all the people affected by the spill was taking its sweet-ass time getting to us. I needed the money—my parents needed the money. “All right, I’ll talk to Mary Beth when she comes in.” Mr. Boone then said as he tossed the work schedules back atop his desk. I then thanked him before turning around to head out of his office. “Oh, and Cera, aren’t you forgettin’ something?” he then said calling me back into his office. I couldn’t for the life of me think of what it was that I might have forgotten. I knew that I had just thanked him after he’d given me the extra shifts. So, dumbfounded, I turned back around and warily walked back up to the side of his desk and asked, “W-What’s that,

Contrasts and Evaluations of Namaste and Butler’s Approaches to Violence against Transwomen In “Undoing Theory, The ‘Transgender Question’ and the Epistemic Violence of Anglo-American Feminist Theory”, Viviane Namaste (2009) examines the impacts of feminist knowledge production on transgender lives, specifically looking at the ways in which Judith Butler’s theories frame violence against transwomen. Indeed, in doing so, Namaste astutely points out that Butler fails to recognize the complexity of this issue as she is blinded by gender primacy (2009, p. 18). However, although this conclusion is enlightening, Namaste’s own analysis of violence against transwomen is quite superficial as it largely relies predominantly on the concept of labor. Although…

Emily Skidmore in her excerpt Constructing the “Good Transexual” Christine Jorgensen Whiteness and Heteronormativity in the Mid-Twentieth-Century Press published by Feminist Studies 37 covers the role that race, class, as well as heteronormative behavior play in the public perception of trans individuals. In her work, Skidmore utilizes many different stories of transgender females including one of the most iconic figures of transexuality in America, Christine Jorgensen. Throughout the passage she references Jorgensen as the model of a “good transexual” and how her acceptance for the most part had to do with her alignment with heteronormativity as well as her race and social status. To further prove her point she utilizes the stories of transwomen…
