Misconceptions Of Good2go

Improved Essays
A company named Sandton Technologies created a smartphone app called Good2Go, which allow users to give consent to engage in any sexual acts. The idea behind the creation of the app was in hope to prevent unwanted sexual manipulations, by giving the users a relatively easy process to ensure mutual consent. The way the app works is brought to the user with a series of questions and statements, that ask the user if they are “Good2Go?” The options given are “No, Thanks”, “Yes but...we need to talk”, or “I’m Good2Go”. The user hands the phone to a partner where they are asked to answer the same. If they select “No, Thanks” a pop up will appear saying, “Remember! No means No! Only Yes means Yes BUT can be changed to NO at any time!” If the partner …show more content…
The app works on an assumption that whatever happens on the app reflects reality. But the problem is that there are dangerous assumptions because someone could easily manipulate the questionnaire. An example could be a person could coerce their partner into inputting their password and taking the questionnaire for them saying they give consent when in actuality they are unable to. In a worse case scenario where there was a trail, someone could use the Good2Go App as evidence even though it could have been manipulated. Despite the fact that app says that “yes mean yes!” and that even though they say yes at first it can turn into a no at any time, the app gives a conjecture that once a person says “yes” that it is not rape. It is because of this miscommunication that causes the app to have so many …show more content…
The app is taking the place of not teaching what consent actually means. There is no educational lesson here and some people, surprisingly, don’t know that no actually means no. And although the app mentions that yes mean yes but can turn into a no at any time, it only appears when you click a certain button. The app was created because of the high numbers of college campus sexual assaults and according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center 1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus. The overall idea of the app is good, but the app doesn’t solve the problem. The app assumes that it solves the problem of sexual assaults but it just shows that there is a flaw in the educational system. As a culture, we should be attempting to solve the problem, sexual assaults throughout college campuses, instead of promoting things that won’t solve the issue of a flawed education. What should be the happening is, accelerating education in school to recognize the core of the issue which is how to prevent sexual assaults, to acknowledge that no means

In an age where everything is moving in the digital direction, it is vital that we shower not only the streets but also embrace technology and social media in the fight for social justice. People have been protesting for days on end in disapproval of the current state of affairs between the police and citizens, more correctly, citizens who identify as “colored.” I am one of those citizens. I am one of the tens of thousands who was ridiculed and mocked for expressing a second amendment right to civil disobedience. This form of protest is the fixed mindset of Civil Rights activists, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Andrew Young, which proved successful in their time.…

Rape on U.S. College Campuses: Causes, Effects, and What’s Being Done to Stop It Rape culture on college campuses is pervasive and blatant, but universities, as well as fellow students, politicians, law enforcement officials, media messages, and gender roles in a culture where men dominate and women are not taken as seriously, endorse the bias that sexual assault is the victim’s fault or “unavoidable” in a culture where X, instead of focusing on preventing rape by changing the behavior of perpetrators. Rape culture on campus is perpetuated by the media, U.S. laws, and universities trying to protect their name. The continued emphasis on the actions of sexual assault victims, instead of aggressors, is a real problem in U.S. colleges today and…

Overall, everyone in the classroom seemed to have a clear understand of what is rape and what it means to consent to sex. However, I disagree with how everyone presented their opinion on consent. Specifically, we seemed to simplify what rape and consent means and made the definition very black and white. This begs the question, if we are a representation of our college campus and we are all aware of what consent and rape is or is not, why do we have so many sexual assault and rape cases at the University of Maryland?…

The immediacy of Snapchat has created a new social platform for users to communicate, send pictures and even video call in seconds. Snapchat was created in 2011, with the ghost as their logo. This ghost symbol is based off the concept “there, then gone”, in terms of photo sharing, but quickly became much more than just that (Drake, 1). The public’s desire for an application that allowed photos to disappear was the main force behind Evan Spiegel and his co-founders trying out their new app.…

Sexual assault and rape in the United States of America is reaching new epidemic levels and nothing is being done to stop it. Rape kits sit untested and collecting dust all over the United States and it is estimated that the numbers have reached hundreds of thousands. In places like New York City for example, the backlog of untested rape kits by 2003 had reached 17,000. In order to reduce this epidemic, the country must implement harsher punishments and prioritize educational classes earlier in age in order to emphasize the importance of consent and responsibility.…
