Good Will Hunting demonstrates several concepts from social psychology throughout its plot. Two substantial concepts on display are the perception and development of the self – answering the question “Who am I?” Will, faced with the expectations of the academic community and of himself, must determine who he is and what he is to do in his life. This search for self-identity is not unique to Will – all people must use their perception and social cognition to determine who they are. Another aspect of the film that exhibits a social psychology concept is the development of Will and Sean’s relationship.
