Good To Great Analysis

Have you ever heard the expression “Good is the enemy to Great?” (pg. 1)
In Jim Collins book “Good to Great”, he explains what that question means. Everyone seems to settle for having a good company, but never seem to achieve to have a great company. Jim Collins explains that if you want to have a great company you need to consider 3 stages for running your company: disciplined people, disciplined thought, and disciplined action.

First off, having disciplined people is being or finding a great leader. Jim Collins studies say that having a high-profile leader that will make headlines or those who are celebrities will only lead your company to being a good one. Most great leaders are ones that are self-effacing, quiet, and even shy have the professional will to make a company be a great one. Leader’s need to be setting new visions and strategies to everyone in the company. They need to be ambitious about the company, not themselves. Most people try to find that one big thing that will throw them from good to great but unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. You have to come up with new ideas until you can finally break through to being a great company. Having the mindset that being a great company won’t happen overnight, is having disciplined thoughts. A company needs to lead with questions, not answers. Be engaged in dialogue and debate, not coercion. And most importantly, a company needs to conduct autopsies without blame to learn how to solve the issue at hand.
