Senator McCarthy and his committee accused massive numbers of people of being sympathetic to the communist cause, with really no evidence to support them. In such a situation, where the government overplays its hand, the people have a responsibility to stand up to the government and its injustice, as shown in the documentary/drama Good Night and Good Luck. In Good Night and Good Luck, Edward Murrow and his associates work to expose corruption and injustice and took on Joseph McCarthy and his wild accusations of communist sympathizers. The government, being obligated to promote common welfare, seems to have failed its job throughout history by failing to meet the social and political rights of the African Americans, leaving a deep schism between whites and African Americans that can be witnessed even today, such as the riots out of Ferguson, Missouri. This split can be shown in A Raisin in the Sun where white people are so against black people in their neighborhood, that they are willing to buy a house from the African Americans to prevent the African Americans from living near them.
