The Mesopotamians would define a good person by the character traits of loyal, brave, caring, and glorious. The Mesopotamians would be considered a good person in their society by being loyal because the Mesopotamian people really valued the trait of loyalty. In our reading Gilgamesh, which is based in the Mesopotamian society, Gilgamesh is the ruler of his city as he is 2/3 god and 1/3 man. Gilgamesh is very loyal to his city of Uruk and to the people in his city as he protects them from anything bad happening to them (GILGAMESH). Being brave in the Mesopotamian society shows people there is nothing to fear which is viewed as a good character trait defining one as a “good person”. In Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh and another character named Enkidu fight. Enkidu was created to fight Gilgamesh and is known to be 2/3 animal and 1/3 human. When Gilgamesh and Enkidu fight they both have about the same strength. Enkidu showed Gilgamesh he was brave enough to fight him and Gilgamesh also showed Enkidu that he was brave by fighting him. Being brave caused Enkidu and Gilgamesh to become best friends. In the beginning of the book Gilgamesh, the people of Uruk were not too impressed with Gilgamesh and Enkidu because they both seemed kind of selfish(BOOK). Gilgamesh was very protective of his people and defended the city of Uruk. Gilgamesh did not seem to care about the people less fortunate living in the city of Uruk. This swayed the view on Gilgamesh which gave him a bad reputation and he wasn’t viewed as a very “good person”. Showing a good character trait of caring for those less fortunate would be an example of being a good person in the Mesopotamian
