There’s no doubt that everywhere you go, you are being judged. By the people around you, the animals, even microscopic organisms judge you (not kidding). For instance, many times I get judged by my own mom about my hair, my shoes, and the fact that I love cheeseburgers since it’s said to cause acne; although, I don’t really care for those statements about how I look, because if you really want to know someone or make good friends, you look past looks, and you judge people by personality. Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world was like that? That is the truth, the whole truth, the unvanquished truth is how Freak would say it.…

But two girls named Phoebe Winterbottom and Salamanca Hiddle had done the same mistake and learned from that mistake. The book “Walk Two Moons” by Sharon Creech is about a 13 year old girl whose mother died so she goes on a trip with her grandparents to see her mother on her birthday. While she is on that journey she tells her grandparents a story about her friend named Phoebe Winterbottom and how she dealt some of the same things she had to go through. When she was telling this story they have been judging some people before getting to know them and then they learned what really happened to the people they have judged.…

Jerson Reyes 9 10-13-15 Direct and Indirect Characterization Direct and indirect characterization differ from each other in different ways. Direct characterization is when the author tells you how a person feels right away, on the other indirect characterization is when the author describes the feeling using things around them. For example, “As he walked past the box labeled ‘Free Puppies,’ he glanced around him, then gave the box a kick.” This shows the characters personality without the author or another character in the story saying it directly in the sentence. Indirect characterization makes readers inference the characters personality instead of just being given the facts about them.…

The short story “Abitibi Canyon” by Joseph Boyden consists of several important principles of Indigenous people that I would like to make connections in three different ways. The connections I have chosen are issues that I learned in school, hear of and personally encountered with. Making connections from prior knowledge deepens people’s understanding of problems that others may deal with on a daily base. In today’s society, it is human nature to judge others by their actions and appearance without realizing that they are doing so. For the past couple of weeks, I have been watching Tell My Story, Blind Date, which is a series of YouTube videos by SoulPancake that make videos of things that they think matter, and the specific video…

People are often treated or judged in a manner that is less than equal before people know the true nature of the person. For us, judgement is an instinct, we use it to make assumptions of what is safe, right, and wrong. Judgement is the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions. Throughout The Scarlet Letter, judgement is displayed quite often. Hester Prynne, the main character in The Scarlet Letter, commits a sin that is heavily looked down upon, and she is forced to adjust to her new life of constant judgement and ridicule.…

“Don’t judge a book by it's cover” this is a saying I’m sure most people have heard, but how many of us really take it to heart? In the essay “Working at Wendy’s,” written by Joey Franklin, the truth of this statement is really brought to light. Anyone can find a time, just as Franklin did, when he or she felt as though they were being judged unfairly. I know there have been many times in my life where I have felt as though people have made poor presumptions about me, and where I have been guilty of the same offense. Joey Franklin describes his feelings and experiences while working at Wendy’s; I can easily relate his story to my own experiences of allowing others’ views to change the decisions I make, my assumptions of others, and my thoughts regarding myself,…

For over 6,000 years, people have been criticizing others based on rumors heard or first hand experience. Many criticisms lead to persecution and ignorance from everyone involved in the situation. Similar to criticisms in modern society, judgments have lead to several persecutions and realizations in literature such as The Crucible and my personal life as well. People should judge others by their inner character, because when they do it brings out compassion; however, when people do not judge by inner character it brings outs qualities such as confusion and insecurity. Last February my friend Bethany showed compassion to her friend Peyton by bringing her to church and changing her life.…

When you misjudge someone it is usually on their looks, but other times you think it is right to judge them by their ACTIONS. You think that if someone acts bad you have the “holy right” to judge them. Wait, but is that not what you are judging them for? Sometimes actions and looks are based on past experiences.
