Good Guys With Guns Analysis

In “Good guys with guns”, the main story was about how a couple who were able to defend themselves with a gun while being robbed. In an interview, they explained that having the right to carry a gun saved their lives. They did stress that both of them had military backgrounds and that they were well trained with guns. I think that while having the gun at that moment did save their lives, the robber, who also had a gun, would not have been able to commit this crime if there were stricter gun control laws. The robber could very well have legally bought the gun he was carrying, since no permit is required to buy guns in New Mexico. Without the gun, the robbery would have been much harder to conduct. So by giving everyone access to guns, law-abiding citizens would have a chance to defend themselves. What people don’t realize is that not all crimes are planned out by purely evil people. Some people get carried away and lose themselves to anger or revenge. If two people got drunk and started to fight in a bar, would you want them to have guns armed and loaded, even if they were law-abiding citizens? Giving everyone guns does not mean that everyone will be safe. In the video, a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting had stated that he thinks that putting a gun in every classroom would make it more dangerous. Instead, he is trying to make sure that the shooter does not get access to the gun in the first place. With the right to bear arms comes the responsibility to follow the law. People should comply with background checks and make sure that their guns are in a safe spot.
