According to the class list, there are 24 potential respondents, but the survey results only had 23 responses, with no identifiable reason for the missing response. As with qualitative surveys, quantitative survey research can consist of cross-sectional or longitudinal research methods (Creswell, 2014). The difference between quantitative survey research and qualitative research is that numerical data is collected as opposed to data that cannot be represented numerically. As described by Cozby and Bates (2012), “survey research employs questionnaires and interviews to ask people to provide information about themselves – their attitudes and beliefs, demographics (age, gender, income, marital status, and so on) and other facts, and past or intended future behaviors” (p. 129). Common types of surveys include questionnaires, mail-in surveys, internet surveys, in-person interviews, telephone interviews, and focus groups (Cozby & Bates, 2014; Leedy & Ormrod, 2010). When conducting survey research, the researcher must choose the proper sampling of the corresponding population.…

When reviewing the survey the first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of leading questions or close ended questions. For example, in question 23 when first giving the definition of math anxiety it seems that most people would say yes, whether they truly felt they had it or not prior to looking at the question. In addition, asking more than one question within a question leads to confusion and the inability to answer it straight forward. For example, in question 24 when asking if the participant had ever had a class discussing any of several theorists listed. If you are taking a course in sociological theory most likely you have had one with the named theorists.…

One of the most important tools is survey research, a measurement procedure that involves asking questions of respondents (Trochim, 2006). The importance of survey research cannot be understated, as it is estimated that in the 1980s and 1990s one out of every five studies published utilized survey research as part of their data (Klandermans & Staggenborg, 2002). Survey research can be as simplistic as the traditional, short question and answer survey filled out in pencil to an in-depth interview…
