Ralph was the leader of the boys for most of the book, and he focused on getting them rescued, as shown on page 37, when during an assembly Ralph said “We want to be rescued; and of course we shall be rescued”. Piggy was the brains of the operation, and was the logical thinker as well as caring for the littluns. Simon also cared for the littluns, getting them fruit and comforting them. If all three of these boys are good, then certainly Golding was showing that people can be inherently good. The problem with this line of thinking; however, is that these boys are either killed or attacked and don’t live the best lives on the island. Simon is killed by the hunters during a dance and his “...dead body moved out to open sea.” (154), Piggy is smashed by a large rock pushed by Roger, and Ralph is forced to run for his life after being attacked by the sadistic group of boys. Golding is showing us how evil can quickly overcome good and take over people’s lives affecting not only them, but others around
