Saint Aloysius Gonzaga Although Saint Aloysius Gonzaga has passed, his influence, story, and legacy will not be forgotten. Aloysius Gonzaga was born on March 9th, 1568. He was born in Italy to a family of power. Throughout Gonzaga’s life he endured major sickness, a conversion to the Jesuits, and a death caused by disease. Saint Gonzaga’s legacy has been remembered to this day through the naming of numerous schools and a university (“Society of Jesus”). Although his life was cut short by illness, Saint Gonzaga’s impact on the Jesuit community and on the world is still major. Gonzaga, by being selfless, caring, and remaining a true disciple of God. In our world today we struggle with that. This generation forgets to do the simple things such as appreciate each other and focus more on quality not quantity. At age 18, St. Gonzaga gave up all of his assets. This shows a clarity and devotion that most 18 year old kids have. Most of us cannot go without our phones for a day. I should strive to demonstrate qualities similar to St. Gonzaga. I should help those I need whether it’s volunteering at a soup kitchen or just giving a homeless person food. In my own eduction at Prep I should be a man for others and help my Prep brothers when they need me. I can also demonstrate similar qualities as St. Gonzaga by praying more. I should be in constant communication with God and not always wait to pray until I feel like I need something. I should not just start praying when I feel I need to run well or pass a test. I should pray frequently and find God in all things. In St. Aloysius Gonzaga’s short, but meaningful life, he left the world as a disciple of God. He died doing things for God’s greater glory. St. Gonzaga also found God at a young age and that goes to show why his life had so much meaning. If St. Gonzaga never helped those people they would have died. If no one ever had the same selfless attitude and genuine heart that St. Gonzaga did we would be living in a world of people who only do for
