Gonadotrophins are injectable fertility medications for ovarian stimulation
Treatments such as intrauterine insemination, or IUI, require ovarian stimulation. Ovation Fertility™ partner physicians often use injectable fertility medications called gonadotrophins to achieve ovarian stimulation.
Two types of gonadotrophins cause ovarian stimulation
There are two types of gonadotrophins that cause ovarian stimulation.
(1) Follicle stimulating hormone, or FSH.
(2) Luteinizing hormone, or LH.

However, due to their strength and high success rate, fertility specialists also began to use these injectable fertility medications to treat other conditions, including cervical factor infertility, endometriosis, male factor infertility and unexplained infertility.
There are two different classes of gonadotrophins.
(1) Gonadotrophins made from recombinant DNA technology - Most Ovation Fertility™ partner physicians prefer to use this class of injectable fertility medications, which includes Gonal-F and Follistim.
(2) Gonadotrophins made from purified urine from postmenopausal women - Some examples of medication from this class include Menopur and Repronex.
Gonadotrophin therapy involves daily injects that are closely monitored by our physicians via ultrasound

This injection will make the egg to come out of the follicle, causing you to ovulate.
• Intrauterine insemination will then be performed in the 2 days following the injection.
Gonadotrophins are even more successful than Clomid in causing ovarian stimulation
Gonadotrophins produce very high pregnancy rates when combined with IUI. As a result, injectable fertility medications have become a common treatment for many causes of infertility.
• Patients who are 35 years old or younger, can expect a pregnancy rate of 20-25% per cycle, when using a combination of gonadotrophin and IUI.
Patients may experience side effects when taking gonadotrophins. These side effects may include bloating, cysts, pregnancies with multiples and sometimes a very rare condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. However, Ovation Fertility™ partner physicians carefully monitor patients to keep the risk of side effects low.
Injectable fertility medications can cause ovarian stimulation in patients who suffer from numerous causes of infertility. If you have any questions about injectable fertility medications, please contact an Ovation Fertility™ partner
