Goldwasser: We Must Decide In Our Technology

Daniel J. Boorstin, an American historian, once said “Technology is so much fun but we can drown in our technology. The fog of information can drive out knowledge.” Over the years, technology has advanced an incredulous amount. It has encapsulated our culture, our schools, and the youth of this generation. Goldwasser’s main point in this essay is even though technology is extremely useful, the youthful generation is extremely susceptible the pull it has which can lead to an obsession. Although, Goldwasser also states how technology has opened up a bountiful amount of doors for the youth. She then focuses on the positive aspects of technology. I agree with Goldwasser’s points that technology has had a positive impact on my generation, including our eagerness to read and write, our being exposed to history and literature, and how working with technology, rather than against it, will open up less opportunity for ignorance. “The average teen chooses to spend an average of 16.7 hours a week reading and writing online.” Although this was a very shocking fact, I can completely believe it.
