A man walks down the street depressed and burdened. He looks to his right and sees the church. He can’t bear the burden on his shoulders. He walks into the church and sits down with the priest to do a confessional. The priest says to him, “Tell me what burdens you, son.” The man replies, “I was with General Sherman on his march south. We did some terrible, evil things.” The priest replies, “You were just following orders.” “No,” says the man, “They weren’t just orders. We did things only the devil is capable of.” “The only way to cast out the devil is to confess to God,” replies the priest. “I-I can’t,” the man replied hesitantly. “Tell me about Goldacre,” said the priest. The man then confusingly asks, “How do you know about Goldacre?” …show more content…
BANG!! The soldier lies on the floor with a bullet hole in his head. The other man kicks the door open and walks out of the church. This man’s name is Wayne Savage. He flees the scene and jumps in a carriage. He tells the driver, “To the nearest train station.” Savage boards a train headed west two days later. He sits across from two young men that are reading the paper. One says to the other, “Can you believe this? Some poor fellow was shot in the head while confessing. I suppose the only good that came out of that was that he got to Heaven
