It is sad to see women or even young girls put their lives at risk to meet these beauty standards. More and more girls are suffering from eating disorders, and younger girls are getting plastic surgery. If we go back in time you can see how beauty standards have changed over time. As time progresses the less realistic beauty standards become. We have reached the point as to where fake is what’s the norm and natural is seen as unacceptable and ugly. Back in the 50’s unlike today thin was unflattering and the fuller the better you looked. Instead of weight loss products they had weight gaining products. It’s unfortunate that these standards have changed for the worse. It’s important for women to realize that they are being affected by these standards daily whether they see it or not. Models like twiggy are the new representation of the ideal figure. Clothing seemed to be getting smaller. Demanding women to attain a slim figure, smaller hips, and breast. Women are now being forced to diet in order to achieve the new ideal body of the 60’s. Coincidently weight watchers is founded during the time.
