Later on, this chaos led to the Yom Kippur War on October of 1973. The Yom Kippur War was the 4th war between the Arab-Israeli Conflict; the countries that attacked Israel was Syria and Egypt. Golda Meir was “fated” to lead the Israeli Government when the Yom Kippur War began. It was a surprise strike against Jews which caused lots of suffering, but the Jews still came in strong. Though, Golda Meir had regretted, even after her passing, was that she did not follow her intuition to call up the reserved days earlier rather than receiving advice from the military intelligence experts who had thought there was no reason to mobilize. She was a woman of power in the government filled with non-religious and religious men. This gave unheard women a chance and a voice or a saying in the government. She was able to get elected to the Knesset, which is also known as the Israeli Parliament, and Meir was able to accomplish with nearly seven hundred thousand immigrants provided with housing.
When she was a young 8-year-old little girl, 3 years before that, her father left for America then was able to get the rest of his family to America. She spent a lot of her time in America which made her perfect English. Because Golda Meir was educated in America and spoke it fluently, she volunteered to go to the United States to fundraise for equipment for their armed forces against the Arabs (during the time where Israel was declared independent), and came to raise $25 million, but instead came with $50 million from the American Jewish community. Outside countries (mostly the United States) became involved with all the drama with the Arab and Israeli Conflict by supporting Meir. Golda Meir was an inspiring woman who came and conquered with her beliefs. Even through war, she still sought for peace amongst Arabs despite how she did not recognized them as “Palestinians”.
