Understanding the reason for why people commit crime is one problem in our society we have never found a answer to. In the short story Gold Mounted-Guns by F.R Buckley he uses his view on how a criminal perceives a situation differently than in the other short story A Teacher’s Reward by Robert Phillips. Both however use the perception of the criminal to paint a picture in our minds of how perception can from another persons viewpoint will change our opinion on a subject.

They both want to either feeling a sense of belonging or a sense of relief. Raybe from Gold Mounted-Guns by F.R Buckley wants to relieve the mental pain he has been caused by using the the moral thought of an “eye for an eye”. He believes that rapping miss Scofields knuckles will give him a sense of relief and moving on from the part of his life that caused him to commit crime. This can almost be similar to the death penalty as it is an “eye for an eye” and gives the victims a sense that just has been served and they can begin to move on. The Boy from A Teachers Reward by Robert Phillips is kinda similar. He just got into a new town and wants to fit in. The crowd he choses tho is one of illegal activity. However we can see that he really is just looking to fit in and find a group that would take him in. This makes him believe he is morally justified to commit crime since it will improve his mental wellbeing. We see this again with gangs as kids with no belong can be given a sense of belonging by a gang even tho they may have to commit crime, it will improve their mental wellbeing since they now have a sense of
