My conceptual map was constructed to represent the notion of ‘hope’. An idea of hope for the future of the Gold Coast city through improved sustainable practises. My aim was to shift focus away from the focus of the ‘Triple Bottom Line’ that is traditionally the concentration of sustainability. In order for the Gold Coast to truly become a sustainable city integration, innovation and new age thinking are required to build on top of the founding principles. 29). A movement of change is being realised, with a range of solutions to improve the city’s sustainable practises. Processes such as water management planning tools of Water Sensitive Urban Design (Syme, 2014, pp. 80-81) and an increased push for renewable energy sources can have cross sector benefits by increasing environmental health, quality of life and stimulate the local economy (Foran, 2014, pp. 136-142). A transition away from the current three tiered model of governance can be a catalyst for change to transition to life beyond a political world driven by the economy (Green, 2015). This would allow for a change to incorporate 21st century developments with a hope for a better attitude that respects environmental needs, while allowing providing a more socially orientated government. Another change as raised by Kilcullen (2011), would be to allow citizen initiated referenda that gives a greater say back to society to make decisions on issues that affect them
