Going to school in Alaska isn’t easy. With limited money, overflowing classes, and minimal choices of classes to pick from, it’s hard to receive an education like everybody else in the United States. When I started high school I thought the classes were going to be easy, but I soon got a reality check. I realized you don’t have to push yourself to the brink of exhaustion and failure of a class to get into a college.
When I entered high school I was taking seven classes, it seemed easy enough. I continued to have seven to eight classes throughout sophomore and junior year. At my school you aren’t allowed to pick your math class until senior year. Your math teachers take care of everything. At the end of my sophomore year my teacher decided to put me into honors algebra 2/Trig. I accepted the challenge hoping to beat my greatest battle of plugging numbers and letters into many equations. I entered the class with high hopes but soon realized I wasn’t understanding

I take challenging classes and strive for the best grades possible. Besides the blip my junior year in math I have proved I can handle many classes and the difficulty each one provides. Even though all of my classes have not been honors or AP it does not make the normal classes any easier. Each teacher pushes you to do better, and some just like to give lots of homework. I chose Eastern Oregon because I know I can provide my dedication and hard work to be the best person and learner I can be. I believe that Eastern Oregon will allow me to push my boundaries without overstepping them and help me grow. I believe I will have many opportunities going to your school to prove not only to myself but my family, friends, and community that I can become the doctor I’ve always dreamed of

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years.
