Going To Machik Weekend

Decent Essays
I would like to attend Machik Weekend because I want to learn more on how to help my homeland. I am passionate about Tibet because of my heritage, and I want to improve the lives of my fellow Tibetans inside Tibet. I am also very passionate about social justice issues, like poverty and access to education, of which Tibet, unfortunately, has many. Going to Machik Weekend would help me gain information and ideas on how to help native Tibetans and my community in Minnesota.

I remember that when I first got an interest in volunteering and social justice it was because, I wanted to, like in Buddhist teachings, "work for the benefit of all sentient beings". Then I thought about if there was a way to help not only Tibet but the whole world.

China was very brutal to Tibet. What China has done to Tibet, causes them to be seen as an independent state, which is no good for Tibet. The upcoming anniversary of the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet shouldn’t be celebrated in Tibet because of the brutality caused by China, the fact Tibet is not given a choice, and how Tibet is an independent state because of the Chinese. In 1950, Chinese troops invaded Tibet, causing them to have to become part of the People’s Republic of China.…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

I was also not aware of the many people elders that needed to see and have communication with people. Volunteering at the Senior Center allowed me to talk to the elders that attended the Senior Center.
