I am applying to Hofstra University because I want to put myself in a completely different environment. Going to Hofstra in New York means that I get to see another part of the states that I have never been to and that I get to be someone that no one knows yet. At home everyone knows me and they all have an idea of who I am. Most of those ideas involve me being the nerd in school that does nothing, but study. Some have even seen me as someone who would rather do all the work than let others help. However, the people close to me see that I work hard for what I want and won’t let others hold me back if they don’t want to work as hard as me. I always put my heart into everything and want to do so many things that people at home don’t understand. …show more content…
Some teachers and family members expect me to do great things like cure cancer or fix global warming and it makes me feel like I am restricted to specific choices in life. While there are some big things I want to do, these expectations that others have makes me feel like my life is being laid out for me. I want to go to Hofstra to find my own path where I can change the world in my own way. People like Steve Jobs or Oprah Winfrey didn’t need to do things like cure cancer to impact the world in a big way. I want to be someone who changes the world in a way that is unique and special to me. Curing cancer is great, but everyone wants that to happen. I want to use my talents and interests to create something that will make me stand out and express those skills.
