Mack and Leeann explained how they use to discourage people from returning on the same mission trip; which they described as a short-term view of missions. Long-term view is people returning year after year. When people return on the same mission trip multiple times they might be doing the same work, but now they are able to build relationships with people and through these relationships really share the love of God! I had only gone to Alaska this one time, but I could see how the kids responded to everyone who had been coming for years; the kids were excited, hugs were exchanged, and it truly felt like we were visiting family. I have also been on the other side of things where I have been able to build relationships from my trips to Mexico every year.…

It was the first day of our medical mission trip. The 13 of us were divided into four group: triage, clinic, pharmacy, and faith. Colin, Laure, and I sat in plastic white lawn chairs, facing the locals who sat on three wooden benches. We had prepared a short, spiritual lesson to bring Jesus’ love to the rural cities of the Dominican Republic. When I welcomed them in their native language, their faces softened.…

I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

Mark A. Noll and Carolyn Nystrom's book, Clouds of Witness: Christian Voices from Africa and Asia, is a compilation of 17 biographical sketches of significant African and Asian Christians. Each of these inspirational people played a key role in establishing churches and driving Christian movements and renewals within their respective countries. These lesser-known disciples of the 19th and 20th centuries, are proof that Christianity is not restricted to European nations. While Western Christianity had faltered in its mission attempts, those national missionaries who took it upon themselves to spread the gospel within their own communities by merging it with local culture and ideas, proved that post-colonial growth through the non-Western world was possible. To begin, these Christians proved that a working knowledge of the local language and culture is important to the overall success of the mission, and people are more likely to listen to people from their own culture than they are to Westerners.…

Africa and mission trips are two topics that go hand in hand. When one is mentioned, the other is surly to follow. But this was not always the case. Missionary presence in Africa started around the fifteenth century when Portugal first made contact with Africa for trading routes. In order to gain land near the sea, the Portuguese “initiated the "Reconquista" project to recover Iberian lands from the Muslims” (Kalu 782-787).…

I had and still have a hard working family, but as a kid, I would always see my parents struggling to put food on our table for my siblings and myself. As of now, life has been treating me well; I have a wonderful wife, an amazing 2 year old son and a baby that is soon to be due and a great job! I asked myself the question “how can we make a long-term effect on a short-term mission trip?” This idea centered around the lessons we were teaching the children throughout the day.
