Humans are prone to having unusual thinking; this way of thinking has created so much! Unusual ways of thinking are what have brought humans to great milestones like landing on the moon, creating airplanes and cars, and tiny computers that can fit in the palm of someone’s hand. Sadly, the odd ways of thinking are not always good; sometimes it can be a very warped way of thinking. Thoughts and ideas and can be contorted and twisted, even be used to be cruel to others. Having this warped type of thinking is never a good thing. It can lead to hurting people and making it so what was once considered common polite gestures, or even unnecessary ones, a relief from society. People have the free will to decide for themselves; they are allowed to choose what they like, dislike, and what they’d like to do for the future. Although, there is the occasion where people believe they know what is best for a person. Pushing their thoughts and beliefs onto a person, in the story “Going off the Communication Beaten Path” by Eve Sweeney, in the book Criptques, Eve goes through this. She experiences the warped thinking of “normal” people who believe they know what is best for her. “The summer before 9th grade, however, my dad decided I needed to learn a high-tech AAC device—an electronic device that speaks what I type” (Sweeney 84), and “People often chastise me for not using a high-tech AAC, saying I’m not independent since I rely on someone else to read my board” (Sweeney 84). The way people treated her disability and her desire to use what she was comfortable with caused people to make comments.
