The Right Choice: Success in Going Back to College
“Congratulations!” One single word with so much meaning. A word that is frequently uttered on graduation day; a word that brings a sense pride and accomplishment, recognizing that long hours, hard work, sweat and tears, are put in to achieve an end goal: a college degree. Before taking the leap to go back to college, there are many things that must be taken into consideration to guarantee success. Taking the time to develop a well-thought-out plan is an essential component to succeeding on this journey, but it’s just one small piece in a much larger puzzle. Living and breathing their profession they offer insight on real issues facing the corporate world. A unique challenge facing this group of students when deciding on whether or not to go back to school is the demands placed on them at work. Juggling a forty-plus hour a week career and then thinking about adding the grueling task of studying for a degree, can certainly play a large factor on the success rate. Although it is overwhelming to think about adding another thing to make life just that more complicated, a good support system can make the load lighter. Other co-workers may be in the same boat and can offer encouragement and things they are doing to make it easier. In addition, a support system at home can be the greatest asset to the adult student. There is nothing more encouraging than support from family to help make the journey easier when the craziness starts to set in.
Imagine the feeling on graduation day when the process is finished. The long hours, stressing over papers, cramming for a test, and final exams will be over. The since of pride in knowing that this was all possible because a plan was set in place. Take time to analyze the situation, outline an agenda, and going back to school is nothing more than another task that can be conquered. The road will be long, but it will be worth
