God’s Hesed in the Gospel of John
In the Prologue to the Gospel of John, John explains who the Word is, as well as what he embodies for God. John does this by making reference to the book of Genesis, as well as the book of Exodus. From his references, John reveals that the Word is Jesus Christ and he has existed from the beginning with God, and is a part of God. According to John, Jesus re-creates the world and gives it life. By his re-creation, God and the Word, being one in the same, continue to show the Hesed that was found in the Old Testament. God displays this Hesed through divine mercy and love towards his people. The Word is true God and true man, thus he experiences the suffering of humans and through his suffering he is able to forgive people of their sins.
