After articulating the limitation of human’s knowledge of God , Barth then begins to address the reality of God in light of God’s revelation in himself through which is the only possibility for human to Know God. “God is who He is in the act of His revelation.” This act of revelation is actually an event which is in fact the Word of God, Jesus Christ. Because Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday and to-day and for ever,” God’s being in Jesus Christ is not only “an accomplished fact” but also “an event happening in the present, here and now” and “truly future.” Therefore, the God we are dealing with in Jesus Christ is the “Living God” whose being is life itself.

God’s act in Jesus Christ shows that “God is He who, without having to do so, seeks and creates fellowship between Himself and us.” The being of triune God is a being in relation to himself in himself. He wills to create fellowship in himself, and his will overflows ad extra to “seek and create fellowship between himself and us without demanding or presupposing any necessity, constraint, or obligation, least of all from outside, from our side, or by any law by which God himself is bound and obliged.” This overflow of the inner being of the triune God provides the power of the action of the same triune God as the living God for the sake of human. What empowers this overflow is the dynamic relationship within the triune God, whose loving is the ultimate cause for seeking and creating the fellowship both within himself and with human.
