This is a well-known topic in the book of Daniel. It is notable that the start of the book tells us about Daniel’s decision not to dishonor himself. His three associates appear to have complied with his example. Daniel and his three associates stand out from the crowd because even though they lived with heathen people they did not endanger their walk with God, while most of the others willingly or deliberately conformed to ways the of the world. The moral from this lesson is that we must understand that God has called us to live a wholesome life in a fallen world. The decisions we make mirror the condition of our association with God. In this era of foundational breakdowns and ethical changes, millions long for some kind of hidden truth that will provide significance to their lives. Finally, God’s Word should be the criteria for making wise decisions.

Obedience was the answer to Nebuchadnezzar for deliverance from the fiery furnace. When Daniel’s three associates were cast into the fiery furnace, God did not rescue them while He was on His throne. No one is beyond peer-pressure, but it takes a real man to stand for what is right. When you stand for something right, you may have to stand alone. As an old hymn says, dare to be a Daniel…dare to make it
