Goddam: A Short Story

Even though I had gotten a cab, I didn’t want to waste Phoebe’s Christmas dough like that. I love her so goddam much, it kills me. So that’s why I was here walking the rest of the way. Fresh air is always good for clearing my head, so it wasn’t too bad. I changed my route just a bit so I could walk through the park. It always gives me this sense of comfort. It just reminds me of the times I actually had fun. I thought about what Phoebe said, how I don’t even like anything a goddam lot. She sort of had a point. I finally found a phone booth and went inside as fast as I could. I knew for sure now that someone was out there. I don’t know who it is nor do I want to know who it is. I dialed Mr. Antolini and cut the phone as soon as it went through. He’s already letting me stay at his house for the night; I don’t think I should bother him even more. I stood there hearing the dead ringing on the phone as I stared at the keypad. Who did I want to call again? Oh right, Jane. I mean yeah, it’s 12:30 a.m., and her mom will probably pick up, but whatever. I decided to stop being so yellow and I just dialed the number. “Hello? Who is this?” said a female
