Although humans might not be perfect from the instant they were created, they can be improved by their human potential to maximize their human abilities. Since God and Maheo had very different ideas of how they created each of their worlds, this led to many different things that consequently had happened in each of their creation stories. God thought that humans could be tested to see if they had reached their highest peak of human potential by giving them different temptations. Maheo had the idea of having animals come first and then humans, the opposite of God’s ideas, but the humans used the animal’s abilities to maximize their own potential. Although the humans might not have a major role in the creation story, they can be given wildlife in nature to maximize their human potential. It states, “at those times, Maheo, with the help of his Power, created animals to feed and care for the people” (Marriott,Rachlin 26). Even though the humans were not created first they have a strong relationship with Maheo because he needed humans to roam the earth and utilize the animals as food. Maheo wanted his world to have a superior being which were the humans, and they used the animals as food, clothes, weapons, etc to help them in gaining their human potential. Maheo has incredible God-like powers, and he insists on making people live in his world because humans have a chance to become the greatest creatures on the planet. Maheo said to himself that “What good is power, Maheo asked himself, if it is not used to make a world and people to live in it?” (Marriott, Rachlin 24). In this quote it shows how Maheo’s creation of humans is superior to his creation of animals and plants because he specifically says people, not animals or plants. Maheo has presented that humans are the superior being and he granted them the ability to get better. Even though How the World was Made presents animals coming first and then humans, it does not matter, because at the end humans have obtained human potential because the humans are using the animals. The animals were only made in this creation story to further enhance the human’s

I then read the Iroquois' creation myth titled "The Creation." There creation is based on animals and that earth was just an island in the sky separated by clouds. This myth seems to focus creation on the inhabitants of earth rather than earth itself. I can appreciate this because the spiritual creation of animals seems more probable to me then the spiritual creation of earth. " One day the Great Ruler said to his people: "We will make a new place where another people may grow,"" (Iroquois, pg. 36).…

Many people in the world today have decided that a world view does not matter; that everyone can simply believe what they would like to believe, and it would not make a difference. However, this is not true; a man’s worldview determines his every act! In this day and age, it is all too easy to view nature through the megapixels of a photo on an iPhone, or have over one hundred million images of any animal or plant appear in less than a second via Google Images. It is an astonishing accomplishment in technology, and its attributes to human welfare cannot be dismissed, but it does have its faults. Subsequently, these faults reflect concepts that philosophers have conferred for centuries. Many philosophers believe that technology, along with other entities and beliefs in Western culture, is pulling Americans away from having a strong connection with nature. One of the more contemporary philosophers, David Abram, expresses the importance of having a sense of unity with the natural world in his…

Genesis 1:26 states that “man was created to be dominant over everything that creepeth upon the earth”. Human beings were created to be superior over the animals, not considered to be equal, and while they are here to make sure that animals are not mistreated, they also know that animals are needed for the survival of humans. This is similar because both worldviews feel a person has to prove themselves so a life in the future is deserved. They are also different due to how they feel about animals. 3.…

The book of Genesis and the poem Enuma Elish both describe the story of creation, in their own ways. Initially we can see that there are very different beliefs of how creation came to be throughout the stories, but there are some underlying concepts that are the same. The relationship between Deity and humanity in Genesis 1 and 2 is one that resembles a father and son, where as in the Enuma Elish humanity is merely a tool for the gods the handle their menial work. The book of Genesis gives the account to how the world was formed and the different promises God gives to his people.…

In Genesis God created animals solely for food, however, in Popol Vuh animals were accidentally created when the gods were trying to create humans and made something that didn’t speak in their same tongue. The gods saw this as a major problem because they didn’t know if they were praising the gods or not and this led to them being used for meat. Another way the two stories differed is how in Genesis God created the world and everything in it in seven days, “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it…” (Moses 66).…

Sara D'Esposito Professor Mary Pollock JSEM Essay 2 17 October 2017 The Relationship Between Animal and Man The article "Why Look At Animals" by John Berger is very engrossing in a way that it grabs the attention of the reader and brings one such thought. In the article, Berger thoroughly studies the gap between a man depending on an animal. He argues that humans have moved to a higher position above animals, and explains that this is because we as humans have an ability to surpass the range of our planet's natural environment. Berger brings attention to the fact that in earlier times when we first recognized animals, they were only seen simply as clothing, or a pair of horns, and things of this nature.…
