In Nietzsche’s claim God represents the authority which is held over us and stops us from having absolute control over our lives. Also that He represents all the old beliefs and traditions that today’s society is still practicing. In other words God is the old society where He was given all the power and praise which according to Nietzsche is the wrong idea and yet we still continue to live this way. It can be seen that we are still living in the shadow of God even in 2015. Even though according to Christians Jesus died on the cross centuries ago we are still reminded of him. The celebration of Christmas, rosary beads, churches and more are all the ways we keep God alive and well in the spiritual sense. But the biggest way we remember God is by being taught from a very young age that God died for our sins. So it is as if every time we commit a sin it is equal to betraying Jesus which in religion is something we strive not to do. Society is structured in a way that religion is a part of our everyday lives and is dire to our well-being. The first thing is that we have to get rid of all the old beliefs and traditions that we have followed for centuries. This is essentially what Nietzsche is telling us to do which is throw out the old and bring in the new. The old represents the beliefs we were taught and the new is ones that we make up and follow not because we have to but because we want to.
