Seeing God Reflection

While reflecting on the nine steps to living a moral life, the beatitudes, and previous journals, I was able to recognize the common theme of seeing God in my life. Seeing God in our lives is something we can experience everyday if we are looking for God and willing to listen to Him. At first, the thought of seeing God daily seemed next to impossible because it’s not everyday that someone experiences a miracle. I realized that God makes Himself known all the time, but I don’t always notice Him because I am too caught up in the world around me. God does not need to perform a miracle to reveal Himself, but rather He reveals Himself through the people, places, and events around us. From this class, I was able to see the presence of God more clearly, and started to look for him more often in my own life. I was able to alter how I look at myself, how I listen to God, and find my purpose in life.
By finding God in my life, I was able to change my perspective on life, as well as how I look at myself. Ephesians 1:17-18 says, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye

Everytime I see the sunset, clouds, ocean, or even mountains, I tell myself that I am admiring God’s artwork. Sometimes I look at nature and just smile because I am so lucky to share in a part of God’s creation. I often think of a bracelet I wear that has the Bible verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” People often say, “the sky’s the limit,” but this isn’t the case with God, with whom all things are possible. Someday I hope to fully understand God’s calling and my purpose in life, but for now, I will continue to seek God’s guidance and hopefully expand my relationship with

“Sacred Pathways,” by Gary Thomas is an enlightening book which describes nine ways humans can draw closer to God. Thomas explains many people are drawn to God through outward influences such as nature or their own five senses. Others are inspired more by routine and structure, interaction, experiences, or care-taking roles. Still other people are more inclined to feel closer to God through quiet and withdrawal, intense focus, or knowledge-seeking. Thomas explains one person may identify with multiple pathways and may even expand or change pathways over time (Thomas 23-30) .…

Sometimes it can be difficult to understand why I have to take classes that do not seem important to me. As a Public Health major I do not enjoy taking a computer science class or an art class, but as I discussed all of these things are equally important to God. This means that the more I understand there different areas the more I understand what is important to God. Having this knowledge allows me to have better relationships and understanding with those around me and a better relationship and understanding with God. Putting these ideas into practice has allowed me to understand God more which has strengthened my relationship with Him immensely and has allowed me to find shalom in my…

In his semi-autobiographical book Blue Like Jazz, Donald Miller explores his journey in seeking a relationship with God. It serves as a reflection on his search for identity, which is a challenge for Miller because he was raised in a society that “ditched” critical thinking, soul searching, and the importance of growth in Christianity. Miller touches on subjects involving the identity of God, confession, sin, and the Church. His various interactions with friends and his experiences in his youth help the reader uncover Miller’s views on specific Christian rituals and beliefs.…

The book begins with Janie telling her story to her friend Phoebe. Starting at her childhood, Janie explains how she was raised by her grandmother and fills Phoebe in on the most defining events during that time. She explains how she found out she was not white like the other children she was around and recalls her first kiss with Johnnie under a pear tree, which fueled her grandmother’s desire to marry her off. Preface: I have many journals that I have used, on and off, throughout the years. I will be using them to aid my response, because after reading Living With a Wild God by Barbara Ehrenreich, I see no other way to fully express my change in faith than to speak to my younger self. Like Barbara, writing was a release for me, and I often reflect on my past journals, so I thought it would be appropriate to bring them into this essay. An Essay to Myself…

The worldview philosophy I most closely identify with is cathartic (psychological) transformation and empowerment. I believe the influencers that have caused me to seek authoritative careers and embark on achievements beyond limitations to validate my worth were my absent parents. I’ve experienced a lot of personal distress as a child growing up with the feeling of abandonment, insecurity and neglect. I felt my love ones had no logical reasoning for allowing me to grow into an adult feeling these type damaging emotions and cognitive illusions. According to Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”…

As a young teenage girl I was always focused on keeping up my good grades, having the perfect outfit for school, and helping out at church. Little did I realize that God and I did not have a close relationship. When I entered my first year of high school I decided to go deeper into ministry by helping out in the Worship team’s soundboard because of the lack of helpers at the church. As I entered deeper into ministry my understanding of Christ began to grow and I began to help out in both the Worship department and the Youth department. The more I began learning about Christ the more different I started to become.…

The novel, “Life As We Knew It,” by Susan Beth Pfeffer, is such an amazing and unique story in my perspective. It has achieved such a realistic tone that I have never experienced while reading. It was so realistic to me that I often found myself looking outside the window, that I was sitting next to while reading this, and I had to make sure that the moon wasn’t moving towards the Earth. I also went to my refrigerator and without even realizing it, started rationing the food in my head. I think Pfeffer uses two methods of writing to achieve this incredibly hard tone to create.…

Throughout my life, there have been multiple places where I faintly see God. One day that I felt his presence more than ever was the day after the 2016 election. On the day of the election, there was a lot of tension in Marquette University High School. I do not know how many people felt it, but I know that I did, and I could see that some classmates acted a little out of the usual, and ignored me in some cases. Later that night, the election seemed to be going in favor for Mr. Donald Trump.…
