Goals For Social Work

I am applying to the Simmons School for the Masters of Social Work program. My career goal is to work with kids and family, especially those with a history of behavioral and emotional problems as well as women who suffered from the mentally abusive relationship. I want to let them know they have a voice and they can succeed on their own. I want to complement this practical experience with specialized training in order to best serve these individuals. As helping others is always been my passion which I spent a lot of time devoting my time working in customer service throughout my young adult; based on my experience after 8 years of marriage with someone I trusted based on his education and his age that was almost 15 years older than I am I felt my calling is not …show more content…

A graduate Social Work program at Simmons College will allow me to conduct further research into sustainable paths to serving the needs of abused women and children. It is my understanding that half of the program is spent building a theoretical background upon which the remainder of the program – field experience/education – will bring theory to practical situations. Also, I believe learning more about the agency will be a challenge because of the fact that my field supervisor knows a lot about the agency; being that she has been stationed here for about two years.…

We need to be respectful to each other and to defend the people that are not in the positions to do so themselves. Human purpose is about finding your passion and following it, but also making sure that everyone else has an equal opportunity to live out their passion. As an aspiring social worker, I have come across the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics multiple times in my educational experiences. These core values are service, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence. Though, these core values are imperative in promoting social well-being for clients, I have come to the realization that one of these professional values are not in congruence with my personal values. Before enrolling in Social Work 305, I truly believed I could uphold these values to the highest extent, I did not see anything that could potentially interfere with me practicing these values.
