Goal Oriented Demeanor Examples

Improved Essays
Through my very goal oriented demeanor and determination to accomplish necessary tasks for personal and group success I strive to exemplify leadership. In order to be an exemplary leader the authors, Kouzes and Posner, (2012), describe five practices that need to be implemented. Each practice defines leadership and what a leader should strive to perfect in being successful. To model the way shares the same concept of practicing what you preach, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). If you want your subordinates to have a strong work ethic a leader must practice the same, by setting the example in order for others to follow, (Kouzes and Posner, 2012). To me a person who is a leader leads by example. Ever since I was in middle school I have tried to always do the right thing and guide my peers into a direction that is best for them. Since coming to Woodberry my Freshman year I feel as though I have grown stronger in this trait. One example that stands out particularly is when I was on the Bengal football team, and it was a scorching day early on in the year. It seemed as though everybody had a terrible day, and it was looking like we were having a horrible practice.…

Although, this trait this can presumed as stubbornness, I place great emphasis on being a leader that presents herself as a figure of strong resolve but also as someone others can come to in a time of need. In my experience, by being a leader that serves as the foundation for her peer’s personal growth and prosperity will find this in return from them. However, this does not include yielding to faulty excuses or covering up what is lacking.…

I personally feel we should always lead by example because it begins a domino effect of leadership around you. o Grow – An example of this would be taking risks to potentially gain higher financial growth. I personally think if you do not have the ambition to grow and take risks trying new things, you will never know your full potential. For example, I took a class for real estate and never thought I would understand all of the rules and regulations of that field.…

Goal #3: Learn how to be more decisive in decision-making situations As a people pleaser, I have difficulty making decisions because I want to make sure everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued. However, this often leads to internal conflict because I take too long to make decisions, out of fear that I am making the wrong decision, hurting other peoples’ feelings or being overly assertive. I find that I seek approval from others in order to validate my opinions in decision-making situations. Being more decisive will help me become a more confident and purpose-driven leader, which will demonstrate to my team members that I can lead them and that they can trust the choices I make. I will know that I have achieved this goal when others recognize my promptness in making decisions.…

Theo Haimann once said, “Leadership is the process by which an executive imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in attaining specified goals.” I believe that is my strongest quality. When I was little, even my parents seemed to look to me when my brother and I had a task, even though it didn’t always abide well with my brother who didn’t like being “shown up” by his younger sibling. For every situation I am put in, I don’t just accept the “follower mentality.” I want others to look up to me as somebody they desire to follow, just like a leader in my life that I strive to emulate, my mentor and band director, John Gray.…

I can still remember the day when my parents told me the phrase, “You are a leader, not a follower.” It was in kindergarden right after I told them about a few girls who were making fun of a friend of fine, and I decided to stop them and defend her.
