Goal Assignment Essay

Looking back at my goal assignment I made in October, I honestly became somewhat

disappointed in myself in my first two goals. My first goal of achieving a 6:20 mile was not obtained. By the time I made the first goal assignment, my best mile time was 6:59 but in the first mile I did at the beginning of the school year, I got 7:42---currently it’s at 6:33. I did not reach this goal partly because I slacked it from January to April by not improving and just staying around the same time. My second goal of completing 10 laps in the swimming pool in under 10 minutes was not achieved. Currently my personal record of 8 ½ laps compared to the 6 ½ laps when I first started the school year. I did not achieve this goal because I did not try hard enough

I started off with 1:12 at the beginning of the year and now I am currently at a 1:06. I improved by simply by training hard on other workouts such as the 400m and 230m repeats. Strength is by far the most improved fitness criteria for me. For example, my max dumbbell press at the beginning of the school year was 40 lbs---currently it’s at 60 lbs. Also, I significantly improved on my pull-ups; I went from struggling to do 2 reps of failure to more than 15 reps with ease. The murph is the main reason why I have improved so much on the pull-ups. For power, I have not done too many exercises that have tested my improvements on my explosiveness. Nonetheless, I improved on my max bench press (which I consider power)---I went from maxing out at 155 lbs to 170 lbs. Also, I am fairly confident that I improved on my vertical jump score. When I tested my vertical jump, I got 21 ½ inches. However, I feel much lighter in regards to my vertical jump and I am fairly confident that I have improved on it considering that was the only time I performed it. Lastly, endurance would be my second most improved aspect. In my first 1.5 mile, I got 11:27 compared to my current record of 10:47. Training for the mile every week is the main reason why I have improved. Not only have I improved on my cardiovascular endurance, but I have also improved on my muscular endurance. In the first ¼ murph, I got 15:03; by the last ¼ muph that I did, I …show more content…
Since I already go to the gym, I feel like having a traditional workout which involves cardiovascular and muscular endurance would keep my exercise routine more fun and refreshing. On Tuesdays, which is a late-start day, I will set myself to wake up early and get a quick workout in at the track before school starts. I know that I am not going to be able to do this routine perfectly on every Tuesday, but I will try my best. One thing that personal fitness taught me is that you can have a good workout in less than 30 minutes at any time of the day. When I would go to the gym, I would plan out at what time I needed to go there and then leave exactly at the 2 hour mark when in reality, I can fit in a good workout whenever possible. The challenge I face with this goal is that tend to procrastinate and ultimately become lazy. My second goal would be to lean down a bit and decrease my current body fat of 20% down to 16%. In order to reach this goal, I will continue to train and make sure that I don’t pass my 2,600 calorie limit while eating enough protein, carbs and fiber.Weekends are my biggest obstacles in terms of eating healthy because it is hard for me to control my appetite at a party or at a restaurant My last and most important goal is to never stop going to the gym or never stop working out in general. This goal may be the most difficult to achieve due to the tendency of

In the book “The Naked Roommate” by Harlan Cohen there are five tips that I could take out and apply to my life about my own health. The first of the five tips is “Freshman 15, or um 45”, I can apply this to my life because it applies to my weight. Being able to control my eating at my house where there aren't multiple fast food restaurants and an all you can eat buffet at Larson's commons was a lot easier than college. It can be hard to control myself from the temptations, but when I notice myself gaining weight it makes it a lot easier to want to go exercise and eat healthy. The second tip that can apply to me is “The student body image”, because body image is something that is very important to me.…

Twenty meter sprints are an applicable fitness test for the chosen fitness components because it is able to determine acceleration, maximum running speed and speed endurance. However these aspects vary depending of the distance tested over. Vertical jumps tests are effective when testing the strength of the leg muscles as you are required to jump as high as you can from the push from your legs. In order to reach the fitness goals and improve and maximise test results, at least four to five training sessions need to be implemented to achieve noticeable results. However there are only four periods of sport science per week, creating a limitation to the results…

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

One theory that managers have used was the expectancy theory. Expectancy theory is broken up into three stages expectancy, instrumentality, and valance (Expectancy Theory of Motivation). When using the expectancy stage, the perception of the workers by showing efforts will enable them to attain their performance goals.…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed. It was a weak point that I want to address because when sprinting, I could not maintain my speed for long periods of time or distances. In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it.
