Goal 1 Reflection Paper

Goal 1: In goal 1, I plan to use a variety of prompts to challenge students to think at an advanced level. My goals is for students to develop high level questions, challenge the thinking of others and make positive contributions to the group.

Sometime during the first semester, I read an article about the use of Bloom’s Questioning Stems in the classroom. I also went to a conference on differentiation that also presented information about using Bloom’s Taxonomy with students. What was presented made me change my thinking about how to completely implement my goal. It was said in the article and at the conference that it did not matter what level of questioning a student choose to use, only that they were using some sort of questioning. The level of questioning depending on the materials that were given to the student and does not correlate to a certain level of intelligence.

As a result of this new information, I continued to use Blooms Stems in my lessons, but I choose to drop goal setting related to getting to a higher level. Most of the lessons I use frequently come from reading an article from Newsela because of the features Newsela offers for data collection. The purpose of using Newsela is that this website offers a variety of news articles that have different levels and articles of interests for students.

As a class, we often think-pair-share and go into a group discussion, after Reading a Newsela article. In past lesson, I have consistently used the quiz feature and Lexile level feature. Going forward, I plan to have students respond to prompts through Newsela (instead of on paper), as well as, use the annotation feature to track the students thinking. This data can easy be tracked and analyzed, while also further preparing students for questioning and discussion in small groups and large

Psychology 201 has been a very intriguing course for me so far. I really enjoyed learning about how the brain works and how big of a role it plays in our lives. Some specific areas of psychology I enjoyed studying were Operant Conditioning, the theories of motivation, and Jean-Dominique Bauby. Operant Conditioning was a familiar concept, even though I was not familiar with the specific terminology. I think reinforcement and punishment are very interesting topics that apply to everyone's lives.…

In January 2016, 637,067 homeless citizens were accounted for in the US. Out of those 637,067, 4,000 were accounted for in Virginia. Homelessness in Virginia has gone up 4.2% in the last three years. Aren’t those facts just a bit unsettling? When I heard we had to a Capstone Project, I knew homelessness in VA had to be incorporated into my project.…

EDUC 632 is related to Liberty’s Mission and Conceptual Framework because it teaches its teachers (or soon to be teachers) the SCRIP. First, to be successful teachers, one needs to have social responsibility. This is demonstrated by us coming to class every weekend that is required. The same can be said for the commitment along with being committed to the program. If we were not serious about this, we would not be here.…

[ ] In clip one, the children are engaged through discussion about their prior knowledge. For example, the children are asked what they already know about predictions and are able to learn from others through discussion. Then the children are given the opportunity to identify what they already know about predictions within a small group in clip two. My instruction linked the children’s development by providing opportunities for the children to use their prior knowledge of predictions and verbally communicate their understanding as well as record through writing on a chart within a small group. After the children identified their prior knowledge, I created a bridge to the new learning by building on their understanding through using a anchor chart with new ideas for the children to learn as well.…

In the wake of outlining this assessment and clarifying the importance of it to the students, I'll let them know that there were four specific things that I was evaluating amid this activity. The rubric for the task has four key things that I am utilizing to judge students execution, which depended on their parts. One, the part of the researcher. Did they keep the group on undertaking, offer the group some assistance with understanding the document, did they give foundation information of said document, and so on. Two, the part of the summarizer.…

For example will assessment be initial/pre course, formative, summative or based on recognised prior learning. The assessor will need to decide the methods or activities to be used for assessment such as observations, performance evidence, discussion or witness/learner statement. How knowledge and understanding is going to be assessed also needs careful thought and could include tests, multiple choice questions, written assignment/task, a reflective journal, verbal questioning or naturally occurring evidence, all of which need to be fit for purpose and relate to the learner’s specific needs. Further considerations for assessment planning are to determine who will be assessing the learning/learner and how progress will be monitored and reviewed following feedback. 3.2 Evaluate the benefits of using a holistic approach to…

For some people the headings may come over too vague and don’t evoke enough affective learning since theoretically the model allows one word answers without exploring more subjective matters. It does allow the person to be scholarly to an extent but not to elaborate into higher levels of learning. There may be a slight contradiction between conclusion and action plan. Both ask “what you could have done differently” with the action plan having the added “would you act differently next time”? I would suggest that both could be part of the same question and in doing this would further simply the cycle.…

The students will also be assessed by their ability to make an inference while reading their independent reading book. During Daily Five, the students will be asked to make an inferce as they read. This form of assessment will help me recognize the students that have a true understanding of this skill and are able to use the skill independently. I plan to use the results of this assessment to tailor my future lesson. If I notice during the turn and talk that not a lot of students understand the skill, I know that I will need to continue modeling my thinking when making an inference.…
